The Basic Sock
The Basic Sock: If you can knit a hat you can knit a sock! In this class you will learn how to knit a sock from the top down. We will cover all aspects of the sock so you can knit with confidence and expand your skills.
Homework: participants must bring with them a sock cuff that is ready to begin the heel.
Supplies needed:
1 skein of sock yarn
DPNs size 1 or 2
Beginning of round marker
Pattern for the sock cuff is as follows:
Cast on 64 sts and join in the round
(Cast on method can be standard or long tail)
K2, P2 ribbing for 12 rows
Next row: knit
Then knit for as long as you want your cuff to be. Average cuff length is 4 to 6 in.
Gauge should be 8 stitches per inch or 32 stitches per 4 inches.

If homework is not complete by the start of class, you will need to complete at least 10 rows of ribbing before you can start the foot.
