Design your own Socks

There is nothing more cozy than a hand knitted pair of socks! Whether you are just starting
your first pair of socks or wanting to develop your skills as a sock knitter, this class will set you
up for success. We will start with a basic sock pattern and each participant will learn how to
adjust the pattern to include cables, stranded colorwork, texture, or leave the pattern as is!
You may be thinking…”this is way over my head, I can’t do that…” Well, I am here to tell you,
YES YOU CAN! This class will take care of the guesswork and provide charts for some cables,
stranded colorwork, or texture that will fit into the basic sock pattern.
You will learn: craft math and how the patterns will fit into the sock pattern, the anatomy of the
sock, how to turn the heel, and kitcheners stitch. I strongly encourage participants to keep notes on
their choices so the design can be easily replicated on the second sock.
Session #1 will focus on choosing your design, starting your cuff, and the heel flap.
Session #2 will focus on the heel turn and picking up the instep.
Session #3 will focus on the toe, kitcheners stitch, and showing off your amazing design!
Supplies needed: Sock yarn or fingering weight yarn. Recommended needle size 1 or 2, your
choice of DPN or circular. If you plan on cabling, bring a cable needle. Stitch markers. Writing
utensils and paper or a notebook.
Things to consider:
- Colorwork: bring your odds and ends balls of yarn that are sock or fingering weight, regardless of the color
- Come with an open mind and try new things
- There is no such thing as a bad design
