Wool Breed Study: Corriedale

This course is for spinners/knitters/crocheters! When registering for this class, please designate whether you are a spinner, knitter, or crocheter after your name on the signup page. 

Corriedale Sheep orgins are from Australia/New Zealand around the late 1800's, with their breed recognized in 1911. The have beautiful fleeces whose colors range from white to gray and browns to black. Corriedale has a nice hand, is an excellent fiber for beginning or experienced spinners, and creates a nice next to the skin project for knitted or crocheted material. 

This class is for both spinners and knitters or crocheters.  The spinners will prepare a washed fleece to spin with hand combs or a drum carder and spin samples.  The knitters or crocheters will prepare swatches and begin creating a project of a hat or shawl.  We will discuss the history of Shetland Sheep and their evolution (or lack thereof).  Each participant will receive two different samples of Shetland Sheep Fleece to take home.  

Supplies needed: Spinning wheel or drop spindle. Please bring wool processing tools if you have them.  Knitters/Crocheters, please bring multiple sizes of needles for swatch making.  

Spinners skills needed: Must be able to spin singles and ply yarn

Knitters and crocheters will prepare swatches and begin creating a small project of their choice. Each knitting or crocheting participant will receive yarn to create swatches and a project. Please bring a variety of needle sizes

Knitter or Crocheter skills: Must be able to knit or crochet basic stitches, cast on/bind off

Class Minimum: 3 students
